DESIGN STANDOUT: LAURA KIRAR FOR BAKER GETS MOODY GLAM

I am just back from this years fall High Point Market. One of the design standouts I was anticipating was the new collection from Laura Kirar for Baker.  In this, her second collection for the furniture company, Kirar delivered on every level, bringing her own brand of moody glam. In the entrance to the showroom, seen above, she created a seating area of low-slung nubby cream sofas with mod channel backs and blue velvet pillows in varying shades of the hue, pairing them with a fuzzy Flotaki rug and small jewel-like rectangular drinks tables in a burnished silver finish. The overall feel was nightclub chic from another era-- sexy, sleek and totally transporting. Her reference points, from the Yucatan to primitivism to 1940's Deco in Europe, the collection fuses varying stylistic influences. There is more to come as I revisit my photos from Market and highlight emerging trends and noteworthy pieces. Stay tuned for my round up soon....
