RULE OF THREE: LA'S COLOR, PATTERN AND SURFACE DRIVEN PRINTS
Creating her unique artisanal fabric in Los Angeles, artist Paige Cleveland designs prints in traditional old-world ways, bringing a new spin to her designs with her company Rule of Three. I came across her work as I walked NY Now, the gift show that hits New York City every August. It is creators like Cleveland that make walking six miles a day worth the trek. Using natural days and inspired by her travels, she paints and prints her fabrics by hand, using techniques such as Japanese marbleizing called Shuminagashi, and Shibori. Her palette, full of colors found in nature, take well to the Belgian linens, silks and cottons she prints on that end up as pillows, tablecloths and placemats. Ahead, a look at the beautiful textiles she designs with her mantra: "color, pattern and surface are the elements that make up the rule of three."
