ARTISAN MOMENT: THE MODERN QUILT

An aspect of the so-called Maker Movement, this time of great creativity in the artistic realm, involving craft and handwork, is that it harkens back to a simpler time. Quilting, a creative past time with true American heritage is making its return, with a modernist sensibility. This graphic quilt, called Knot, was designed by Meg Callahan in conjunction with Hawkins New York and takes its lead from traditional sailing knots. The circular and linear motif is screen printed and then stitched onto the reversible cotton quilt. Capturing the best of the craft, the quilt's modern-day sensibility feels fresh and just right for the nautical blue and white palette that comes back into favor every time spring weather and sun-filled skies return. Used at the end of a bed in a hilltop cabin or seaside bungalow, the quilt provides an heirloom sensibility and handmade touch.
