A LOOK AT SOME UPDATED CLASSICS FROM JOHN-RICHARD AT HIGH POINT MARKET 2015

Two times a year, the design community of interior designers, buyers and editors descend upon a small town in North Carolina to attend furniture market. High Point Market attracts over 70,000 people from around the globe in search of the latest design trends, new brands and stalwart furniture companies. Visitors know they can find something for all types of design jobs- from residential to hotel work, and the lure of new lines and stylish finds makes for a busy few days of meetings and scouting. I've attended Market countless times, and each season I get excited to uncover new discoveries. For me, the thrill of the hunt  just never gets hold.  This market, one of my sponsors was John-Richard. Known for their constantly evolving range of over 1000 items each season, they take a lifestyle approach, offering accessories, art, lighting, recently added upholstery collections, case goods and more. Based in Greenwood, Mississippi, many of their designs are crafted in Vietnam, a place that is known for its inlay, lacquer, and unique material finishes. This market, I was attracted to their traditional offerings, those that could integrate well in a classically designed space but still bring a little bit of zing through color, hardware or stylistic period. I love the color red, so I am drawn to it in furniture too, and John-Richard had two colorful pieces this time, a Chinoiserie chair and a tailored dresser. To see (almost) all of their collection, you can visit their showroom at 200 Steele Street at Market.  Ahead,  some of the new designs that I was drawn to:

Red is my go-to mood brightening color, so this Viceroy Dining Chair in a Chinese red finish with bamboo detailing caught my eye

The Track Arm Upholstered Chair, a new addition, has a great scale and clean lines

Looking for a classic dining chair that looks fresh? New Evelyn Side Chair with its circular and diamond-back detailing is a great new trad piece

The influence of vintage furniture from the 60's through the 80's is being seen across accessories and furniture categories. This Elizabeth Alabaster Cabinet with a concentric rectangular detail on the front and sleek nickel hardware is a good piece for a dining room or living room done in a classic-with-a-twist style

One of my favorite pieces, The Nian Dresser is dressy and glammed up, without being too glam. Gold trim and naturalistic pulls add a touch of shimmer without going into bling territory.

Bar carts have become a huge category of late. Everyone has their version, but I like the Soho Bar Cart from John-Richard because it has plenty of storage and the contrast of nickel and black mirror adds a noir twist.

Now that outdoor entertaining is in our midst, having illumination for al fresco nights is a must. The Nickel Lantern they make is sturdy, elegant and easy to move with a leather handle.

Alabaster is a natural material that has proven its beauty as it is both luminescent and varied. Made from a square of Alabster supported on a minimal base, the Block Table Lamp is simple and beautiful.

You can never have enough accessories...so I like to think. Pretty Horn and Bone boxes with a lattice and diagonal pattern inlay are always useful. You can store desk accessories in them or use them to corral jewelry.

There is something so pretty about rock crystal as a raw, natural material. Seeing it assembled in this Quartz Crystal Bowl that seems to float on the surface of a table, the pull is undeniable, especially when seen by candlelight.
