GET IN LINE: STRIPES FOR SUMMER
Stripes and summer just go together. Perhaps it is their nautical feel that conjures up a day on the sandy beaches of Sconset, or the lure of a flag waving in a summer breeze. Every season as the warm weather comes I look forward to the new striped finds. Here are some recent discoveries of the tailored and preppy East Coast variety.
Let your flag fly, family, freak or otherwise. Order your personalized flag in time for summertime fun and 4th of July pride. Mark and Graham's new customizable nylon flags have such flair (the pole is not included.)
Sling chairs in jaunty stripes are reminiscent of the beaches in the South of France. All lined up in a row, the Serena and Lily Sling Chairs in navy and white or navy and red stripes look great on the beach against the white sand and blue sky.
Every season, Pottery Barn has great outdoor umbrellas. A wide navy and white stripe on a terrace is so eye-catching and fun in warm weather. Their Round Market Umbrella is so well priced you can afford to buy a replacement at the end of the summer months.
A large, plush towel makes sitting poolside even more compelling. This version, from Son of a Beach in red and white stripes looks as vibrant as a candy cane.
You can never have enough stylish storage. The hand-inlaid resin Racing Stripe boxes from West Elm fit the bill, in fresh stripes that suit a nautical decor.
The resin Color-block necklace from Tory Burch has been on my mind since I first saw it this spring. I love the tri-color stripe on the chunky links. So summery and chic.
Stripe-obsessed Mark D. Sikes recently launched MDS Stripes, a fashion and accessories collection filled with stripes of every kind. I thought this head scarf was fun for summer, given its Jackie O. in Capri feel.
Clare V. is growing her tres Francais collection of red, white and blue bags. Her cultish following finds her bags to be simple, functional and understated, just like the classic Parisian dress code. Her Supreme Simple suede tote with crisp racing stripe down the front is a good choice if you are always on the go.
