INTAGLIOS ARE IT
This tiny little design shop in London is doing big things. Pentreath and Hall is a destination for great design, filled with colorful things that celebrate the best in classic British alongside new products that showcase a colorful, neo trad English style (I've written about my fondness for this shop before- here). Everything in the shop is highly edited by artist Bridie Hall and Ben Pentreath, who also runs an architecture and design firm. This curated vision amounts to a distinctly British sensibility with a twist. They select pieces that make an impact through vibrant color and great design and have an assortment of furniture, home goods, Marianna Kennedy lamps, John Derian decoupage, framed prints, antique objects, pillows and tabletop. Everything is appealingly arranged in a way that makes you want to own it all, set against a brightly painted walls that create a great contrast. One of my absolute favorite things they carry are the round framed intaglios in shiny lacquered frames that are made by Bridie. Bringing history back in a fresh way, the plaster cast Roman Intaglios are matted against a contrasting color, giving them a thoroughly modern sensibility. They sell out quickly, and have just been launched in new colors, so now is the time to order and bring a bit of updated antiquity to your world.
